What are the types of botox?
There are several different brands of medication used for anti wrinkle injections including the big ‘B’, Azzalure, Bocuture and Dysport. At Thames Skin Clinic we will only use the best pharmaceutical medically approved injectable products, with excellent supporting research and safety profiles. The results are tried and tested. The treatments are very safe.

Is Botox treatment suitable for me?
How long does botox last?
Neurotoxin treatments normally last 3-6 months with most people finding muscle movement returning at about 4 months.
Patients vary in the time it takes to break down neurotoxin. Some will break down quickly and others take longer for the muscle movement to return.
How safe is botox treatment?
Neurotoxin treatment is very safe when injected by a medically qualified professional.
All our wrinkle treatments are performed by Dr Hemming who is extremely experienced in aesthetic techniques. She is both medically qualified and has a very experienced eye for natural treatment.
Will I feel any pain or discomfort during botox treatment?
Neurotoxin injections at Thames Skin Clinic are not painful treatments. You may notice some very mild discomfort when treatment is placed. This is short-lived and does not linger after treatment.
Are there any associated risks?
Side effects after neurotoxin treatment are minimal if any. The solution is injected through a very small needle, never the less the injection site may be tenderness and mild bruising may occur. Ptosis or drooping of the eyelid is very rare, much less so with the experienced injector physician.
Anti-Wrinkle injections should not be used if pregnant or breastfeeding as we have no research to prove it is safe for your foetus or child.
Care must be taken if diagnosed with neurological or bleeding disorders, currently suffering from a skin infection or allergy, or taking particular medication. Your specialist will be able to advise you further.
Please discuss any current medication with the doctor, especially if you are taking aspirin or Ibuprofen. Medication may need to be stopped before treatment.
How much downtime is usually needed after wrinkle treatment and what should I expect?
After wrinkle treatment, there may be a small bump on the skin which usually settles in 5-10 minutes. Occasionally a small pinprick bruise may occur. There is no significant downtime and full aftercare advice will be given at your appointment.

- Treatment is gently placed through a fine sterile needle into the facial muscle of expression.
- Treatment can cause mild discomfort over a few seconds.
- Effects can be seen within 3 days and the complete effect in 2 weeks.
