The Best Treatments for Healthy Winter Skin

Posted 30/09/2024 | Advice

Dry, dull, and irritated skin become all too common in the winter months, as temperatures and humidity in the air drop.

This is the time of year when your skin needs a little extra TLC

Cold air outside, hot air inside, and dry air everywhere can disrupt the skin’s barrier in the winter. And that can mean dry, itchy skin for everyone, but especially for those who deal with conditions like eczema and psoriasis.

But the good news is, there are several, affordable treatments available to combat the climate and help your skin remain in a healthy state until the sun reappears. Here are a few of our favourites:

HydraFacial

If there’s one treatment we recommend to everyone during winter, it’s the HydraFacial. We like to think of it as the ultimate skin reset. You know that tight, dry feeling we all get when the weather changes? HydraFacial takes care of that, giving your skin the deep hydration it’s craving. It works by gently exfoliating away dead skin, cleaning out your pores, and then giving your skin a big boost of moisture. You leave glowing like it’s the middle of July, and skin so refreshed it’s like it’s had a big glass of water.

What’s even better is that the Hydrafacial is suitable for all skin types. So if you’re looking for a quick, non-invasive treatment that makes a difference, we’d suggest booking an appointment – we’re currently offering 30 minutes of free LED light therapy complimentary to every patient.

Skin Boosters

Skin boosters are designed to deliver deep skin hydration, which is exactly what the skin needs during the cooler months of the year. At Thames, use Profhilo and RRS as well as Viscoderm and Restylane, injecting into the skin layer to boost dehydrated skin with the highest concentration of hyaluronic acid available. The results? Improved texture tone and health of the skin, better laxity, and fewer fine lines.

ZO Skin Health Chemical Peel

Now, if you’re looking to really up your skincare game this winter and target specific concerns like pigmentation, acne scars, or uneven skin tone, then a chemical peel is the way to go. At Thames Skin Clinic, we use the ZO Skin Health Peel by Dr. Obagi, which is well-known for delivering powerful results.

Winter is the perfect time for a chemical peel

Early October to late November is the perfect treatment to refresh dull, tired winter skin and bring back that healthy glow, just in time for the festive season

It’s advisable to get a chemical peel when the sun isn’t very strong, allowing your skin more time to heal and recover without worrying about UV damage. Many of our patients look forward to their yearly winter chemical peel, using the darker nights to recover and remarking on how much smoother and more radiant their skin becomes afterward.

And don’t forget…

SPF

Not exactly a treatment but its a necessary step to keeping your skin healthy all year round. Winter doesn’t mean that your SPF needs to go to the back of the cupboard until next year. Whilst there may be less UVB, levels of UVA, HEV (Visible light from our smartphones, computer screens etc) and infra-red (IR-A) are still significant enough to cause skin aging. Our recommendations are Zo Skin Health SPF 30+ Primer, Zo Skin Health Smart Tone SPF 50 and Zo Skin Health Daily Sheer SPF50.

All the treatments at Thames are carried out by experienced doctors and therapists, so you know you’re in safe hands. We’re incredibly thorough and will make sure you’re comfortable every step of the way.
