All treatments start with a consultation when our practitioner will examine your skin and explain the reasons behind using the specific hand piece. The choice of hand piece depends on the concern (pigmentation, vascular lesion, skin rejuvenation), the size of the target area and the depth the treatment needs to be delivered.

Is this treatment suitable for me?

Not all laser treatment are suitable for all skin types. This is why all our patients have an initial consultation before going ahead with a patch test and then treatment.

During your consultation we check any medication and medical conditions which may be contraindicated for certain treatments. There are some medical conditions and medications that are not suitable for Laser or IPL. We do not recommend treatment with laser if you are pregnant or breast feeding until approved by our Medical Director.

If laser treatment is not suitable for you we offer alternative treatments for darker skin tones. These may include

How safe is treatment?

Our Cutera. Excel V+ Laser technology is FDA approved and classified as Medical Grade. This means that you will not find vascular, pigmentation and laser genesis treatment of this calibre in a non medical clinic.

Excel V+ treatment features two specific clinically proven advanced wavelengths at 532nm and 1064nm targeting vascular targets and pigmentation. With a smart sapphire cooling system the Excel. V+ laser eliminates unnecessary collateral tissue damage and unwanted downtime.

Will I feel any pain or discomfort during my treatment?

Laser treatments target many different concerns and. each setting will feel slightly different. Laser treatment is often described as an elastic band flick sensation against the skin and some treatments feel hot.

Our Excel V+ laser is equipped with contact sapphire cooling system to provide your treatment with optimum comfort. Contact cooling helps to keep the surface of this skin nice and cool and ensure the epidermis (surface skin) remains protected.

Are there any side effects to treatment or risks associated?

Excel V+ Laser treatment is safe and effective way to treat pigmentation and vascular skin concerns.

By following our pre-treatment advice patients will minimise any risks and unwanted side effects, these occur if the patient has recently

exposed their skin to sun
used fake tan
use of Retinols/Retinoids/Tretinoin
waxing in the treatment area
had chemical peels any other skin resurfacing treatment
changed in medication

Post treatment side effects depend on the type of laser treatment you have had. Patients may experience

heat
redness/blushing to the skin
swelling
tightness
darkening
crusting of the lesions

These side effects are a normal after laser treatment. and usually resolve within hours or a next few days.

It is essential to follow our aftercare and skin protection advice following our procedures. This will be discussed in detail in your consultation.

Please note before laser treatment you cannot wear fake tan or have been exposed to strong sunlight for between 2 – 4 weeks before your treatment. For this reason, we usually recommend treatment between September and May when most people are likely to be less exposed to the sun. Sun exposure can increase risks and side effects post treatment and will be discussed in detail in your pre-treatment consultation.

How much downtime is usually needed and what should I expect?

Following treatment with Excel V+ laser your skin may experience some

heat
redness or blushing
tightness
darkening
crusting of the lesion

Some post treatment symptoms resolves within hours, others take a few days and deeper treatment effects can take 7-14 days to resolve.

The post treatment recovery time depends on the specific treatment you have had and will be discussed in detail during your consultation.

First your medical history will be taken followed by an examination of your skin concerns. Your doctor or therapist can discuss whether Excel V+ Laser treatment is suitable for you and if this will address your expectations from our treatment. When the consultation has been fully explained you will be required to sign a consent form and a photograph will be taken for your confidential records. A patch test is always required at least 24/48 hours prior to treatment, in some cases i.e. for a single spot treatment none is required. Patch test is for safe practice and effective results, this helps to monitor settings and response of the lesion and see how the surrounding skin tissue reacts.

Side Effects

Normal post Laser side effects include some heat and redness/blushing in the skin and some tightness, darkening and crusting of the lesion. Some resolves within hours, others over a few days from 48 hours to 7-14 days post treatment. This all depends on the type of concern treated on the day.

Aftercare

Avoid heavy make-up for 24-48 hrs.
No harsh or active products to be used on the skin for the next 24-48 hrs.
High quality SPF should be worn at all times. Recommended ZO Skin Health SPF 30 or 50.
Avoid Excessive exercise 48-72 hrs post treatment.
Avoid direct sunlight on the area for 7-14 days post treatment.
If feeling tight and hot post treatment we recommend ZO Skin Health hydrating and calming cream.
Avoid steam rooms, saunas, swimming and hot showers for 24-48hrs post treatment.
Avoid touching, picking or scratching the area as this will increase the chance of scarring.
When skin returns to normal your skincare regime can resume. If you do not have a skincare routine we can set this up for you. Good skincare encourages skin health and helps prolong treatment results.

I’ve been visiting Doctor Anna for over a year to revitalise my skin with topical treatments. I look younger!

I received Fractora treatment now 3 weeks ago from Dr Hemming. There has been a slow healing and gradually I see myself less tired looking and my lines have noticeably reduced . The beginnings of a jowel I had along my jawline has disappeared which is exactly the part of my face that bothered me most. It seems as if I’ve had a face lift! My skin is firmer and the hollows less deep. I dare say I look younger.

Go, you will not be disappointed.

I have recently moved to Barnes and was searching for someone that could deliver wrinkle injections on my skin but I wanted someone reputable, Doctor led, and that didn’t over do my face as I don’t want it to look like I have treatments. I had my appointment with Anna, the lovely lady that owns this clinic and what a brilliant experience it was for me. I knew my end result would be exactly what I was after. I shall be back, for other treatments because I feel I’m in safe hands and you all know what you’re talking about. No I know why Anna has such a great reputation within the industry. I’ve had the pleasure of going to Dr Anna for a few years now and was delighted when she opened The Thames Skin Clinic as so close to where I live. The space is gorgeous and bright so perfect for any treatments you may require! I’ve been used to, in the past to going into these darkened rooms where they surely can’t treat you properly.
