HIFU is one of the best non surgical skin tightening treatments available and is suitable for all skin types and ages. You may need to stop some skincare products before treatment. Your medical history will be discussed prior to consenting for the procedure and we will examine your skin for irritation, sunburn and any broken skin. It is essential to inform our team if you have a pacemaker or internal defibrillator.
Treatment is
- Safe and in compliance with European and FDA standards
- Focused and targeted to delivery precise results.
- HIFU treatment is much less invasive than laser or diathermy
- There is minimal downtime and risk of complication associated with HIFU treatment vs surgery.
HIFU energy uses highly focused ultrasound to generate vibration focused at a target depth, vibration causes thermal energy and forms the thermal coagulation zone. Tightening of the skin fibres contracts the surface area of the skin, creating an improvement in the appearance of drooping or sagging skin on the face, eyelids etc. Due to the precise nature of HIFU, where heat is very accurately directed and doesn’t transfer to the surrounding tissues, HIFU is a safe treatment. Other skin tightening treatments include Fractora and Plasma Surgical
At Thames Skin Clinic Dr Hemming has designed her bespoke HIFU treatments to tighten skin, lift and smooth unwanted lines and wrinkles. Thames Skin Clinic combines HIFU treatments with the use of growth factor serums, proven to speed healing. This combination treatment works brilliantly on skin laxity and the delicate eye area and is frequently complimented.
HIFU is a very safe treatment with CE registration. We are very experienced in the use of HIFU which delivers excellent skin tightening results.
HIFU treatment involves focused ultrasound delivery to specific levels under the skin. Some find the deeper targeted tightening more sensitive. Any sensation is short lived and there is no lingering discomfort. You will feel some warmth, light touch and movement on the skin and the treated area can ache after treatment.
As with all procedures we advise you follow the aftercare provided, these minimise any risks associated with treatment. We recommend the use of a good spf 30+ to be used daily. Make up can be applied immediately.
There is no downtime following HIFU treatment. It is called the lunch time face lift. Your skin may be a little red post treatment, this indicates a good response to the HIFU and should settle over a few hours. You may continue with normal activities and detailed aftercare will be provided.
At Thames Skin clinic we precede all of our treatments with a full consultation. Your treatment will be carried out by one of our wonderful Thames Skin Clinic team. You can request for Dr Hemming to perform your treatment at additional cost.
Your medical history will be taken followed by an examination of your skin concerns. You can discuss whether HIFU treatment is suitable for you and any alternative options as well as discussing your expectations from treatment. When the treatment has been fully explained you will be required to sign a consent form and a photograph will be taken for your records.
Following cleansing your skin will be marked for treatment. A gel will be applied and the HIFU will be applied to your skin. This can be momentarily uncomfortable, but the results will be amazing. Patients experience immediate tightening which continues to develop over the next 3 months. Review at 3 months reveals the tightening effect.

HIFU treatment visibly contracts skin immediately after treatment. Due to the action of the HIFU on the skin with neo collageneisis, treatment results can last for several years.
